Color Groups (Shepherd groups)

We are living in communities based on our geographic locations. We gather for worship together on Sunday mornings at the church, but it is in the smaller community groups that we best experience the type of community expressed in Acts 4:32.

The purpose of the community groups (distinguished by colors) is to provide for the needs of our people:

  • the need for fellowship and for encouragement
  • the need for personal growth in our Christian walk
  • the need for ministering to each other in times of need
  • the need for outreach to our neighbors

At the outset of the church, we saw a need to develop community in our congregation. We pinned all the homes of members and regular visitors on a map to see where people lived. From there we developed community clusters or groups and labeled them by colors. The bigger we grow, the smaller we become.

An elder is assigned to shepherd each group and to allow the groups to meet on occasion for fellowship and prayer and to minister to the needs of those living in their color groups. When illness, new births, death, job losses, weather damages, etc occur, there is a natural group of people to rally together for the need.

There is a map in the church lobby with the lines of color group areas and the elders' pictures.

Our color groups and the elder assigned are the following:
